By Ellen Zornes

The Adair County Retired Teachers' Association is pleased to announce that Trayton Stargel, 5th grade student in Amanda Webster's class at Adair County Elementary School (ACES), is the 2016 Adair County Grandparent of the Year Essay Contest Winner.

Students submitted essays answering why "My Grandparent should be the AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year."

Trayton's essay was chosen from all fifth grade students at ACES. His essay has been submitted to Middle Cumberland Retired Teachers' Association for regional competition.

The essay competition is a unique way to recognize the significant contributions that older Kentuckians make toward shaping the lives and values of youth across the Commonwealth.

Our local Retired Teachers' Association organizes the "AARP Grandparent of the Year" essay contest by securing local school participation, promoting the activity and serving as local judges. Retired teacher Teresa Roy serves as our chairperson.

If you are a grandparent raising your grandchild, Adair County has a very special support group called "Grand Group" that meets monthly. To be part of this gratifying group just contact your grandchild's Family Resource or Youth Services Center.
