COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson softball team completed their four-game weekend stand with a doubleheader sweep over Union (KY) on Saturday afternoon, February 27, 2016, at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The No. 2-ranked Blue Raiders (7-3) defeated the Bulldogs (5-3) 3-1 in the opener, followed by a 9-3 victory in game two.

Sydney Fourman had a day to remember at the plate as she went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, accounting for all three runs in the opener where she hit two home runs. Lyndsey Parden picked up both wins on the day in relief, allowing just two hits without a run in her 7-2/3 innings of work.

GAME 1

Offense was at a premium in the opener as the Blue Raiders managed just five hits in the game, but Fourman was prepared to do the heavy lifting as she belted two home runs to account for all three Lindsey Wilson runs in the victory.

She started with a solo shot in the bottom of the second. After falling behind 0-2 in the count, Fourman blasted the next pitch to straight centerfield to put Lindsey Wilson ahead 1-0.

The Bulldogs countered with a solo home run of their own in the top of the fourth courtesy of Tiffanie Moore to tie the game at 1-1.

After a scoreless fifth, starting pitcher Casey Bryan got a pop out to start the sixth but then surrendered a pair of walks to Union as she was promptly lifted for Parden in the circle. Bryan allowed four hits and the one earned run while striking out four in her 5-1/3 innings. Parden was able to get two quick outs to end the threat.

Bailey Mize hit a one-out double in the bottom of the sixth and Fourman followed with a two-out, two run home run on a full count to put the Blue Raiders back in front 3-1. Parden then retired the Bulldogs in order in the seventh to secure the win.

Union's Megan Baldwin (3-1) took the loss as she allowed all three runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

GAME 2

Lindsey Wilson played from behind right out of the gate in the nightcap as the Bulldogs plated three runs to start the second game.

Blue Raider starter Emily Gray was tagged with a leadoff double from Jennifer Bazlyak, followed by a two-run shot from Kayla Frazier. Union added another run on a fielder's choice after Lindsey Wilson was unable to turn a double play. The Bulldogs tried to put another runner in scoring position, but Fourman fired a throw over to Callum Pilgrim, who was covering third base from her shortstop position, on an infield single to get the runner trying to advance to end the inning.

Parden then entered to pitch the second, and after a pair of one-out singles, the Bulldogs were unable to touch Parden anymore as those were the lone hits she surrendered. She retired 17 of the final 19 batters she faced, including a string of 12 straight from the third to sixth innings as she shut out the visitors for the remainder of the game.

Offensively, Lindsey Wilson responded in the bottom of the second with three runs of their own to tie the game. After Fourman started the inning with a single, Cassie Kooker smashed a homer to left field to trim the Bulldog lead to one. Jenna Firestein later pushed the other run across on an RBI single, but the Blue Raiders left runners stranded after a base-running error ended the inning.

Facing a new pitcher, the Blue Raiders proceeded to load the bases on an error and back-to-back singles from Fourman and Cooker to start the bottom of the third. A fielder's choice kept the score the same after a force out at home, but Amy Rogers put Lindsey Wilson ahead 4-3 after drawing a walk to score Fourman. Morgan Howard then singled to score Cooker and make it a 5-3 contest. But the Blue Raiders again had issues on the base paths. After a fielder's choice got one out at home, the Bulldogs then doubled off Rogers at third as she overran the base to end the inning.

Lindsey Wilson had bases loaded again in the fourth, but was only able to push one across on a sacrifice fly by Fourman. The Blue Raiders failed to take advantage of a Bulldog error, wild pitch, and three walks in the inning.

Abbi Goedde added another run in the fifth on a pinch-hit single to left to score Mackenzie Jackson.

The final two runs in the game came in the sixth when Amber Foukes hit a two-out double and later scored on a single by Rogers. Amanda McIver would later single in the inning to score Rogers to make it a 9-3 lead.

Parden (4-1) kept the Bulldog bats under control the rest of the way as she picked up her fourth win of the year, collecting five strikeouts in the game two win.

Caitlynn Estevez (1-1) took the loss in relief as she allowed six runs, three earned, on seven hits with five walks.

Bazlyak was the lone Bulldog to record multiple hits in the loss.

The wins extends Lindsey Wilson's program-record home winning streak to 25-consecutive games.
