William Allen Pickett, 93, Green Co., KY (1922-2016)

He was a member of a highly regarded Green County, KY family. He was the son of the late Leslie Pickett and Eula Keltner Pickett and the widower of his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Leora Bass Pickett. He leaves eight direct living descendants. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church. He was retired from the United States Postal Service as Assistant Postmaster, was a WWII veteran having served in the United States Army, was a member of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124, James L. Pruitt V.F.W. Post #5813, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. William Allen Pickett, 93, of Greensburg, Kentucky, departed this life on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at his home in Greensburg.

The funeral services for Mr. William Allen Pickett will be conducted at 1pmCT, Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, with burial to follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Marion County Veteran's Honor Guard. Bro. Dale Curry, and Marcus Langacher will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Friday until time of the funeral service.

William Allen Pickett, 93, Green Co., KY (1922-2016)

Mr. William Allen Pickett of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Leslie Pickett and Eula Keltner Pickett, was born on March 13, 1922 in Green County, Kentucky, and departed this life on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at his home in Greensburg. He was 93 years, 10 months, and 20 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church. He was retired from the United States Postal Service as Assistant Postmaster, was a WWII veteran having served in the United States Army, was a member of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124, James L. Pruitt V.F.W. Post #5813, and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Leora Bass Pickett on May 13, 2011 having united in marriage on March 15, 1950. Survivors include:
  • A daughter: Janie Pickett Flood

  • A son and daughter-in-law: Brian and Sherry Pickett of Nebraska

  • Four grandchildren: Lauren Ford and her husband, James of Hudgins, KY; Lindsey Landis and her husband, Jeff of Campbellsville, KY; Michelle Pickett of North Carolina, and Laura Pickett of Nebraska

  • Two great-grandchildren: Mia Conley Landis, and Abigail Harper Landis both of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two sisters: Margaret O'Banion of Indiana, and Cecilia McConnell of Lexington, KY

  • A brother: Brooks Pickett of Louisville, KY

  • And a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Pickett was also preceded in death by a son: William Allen "Buddy" Pickett, Jr.; a son-in-law: Jon Flood; a daughter-in-law: Jill Cruse Pickett; a grandchild: Gabriel Lee Ford, a sister: Julia Curd; and three brothers: Charles Pickett, Gene Pickett, and Austin Pickett.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter, P.O. Box 991364, Louisville, Kentucky 40269-1364, which can be made at the funeral home. honorflightbluegrass.org
