Jon Halsey: Party made cynical, sneering work-around

But writer notes he still had power and used it to change registration, after 54 years a party member after caucus established
Comments about: Writer thinks it's time for law change

Personal Commentary

I totally agree with TLEAT.

If you're unhappy with a given law, then work to change it. In this instance, The party hierarchy came up with a cynical and sneering work-around to ignore Kentucky law and subvert the will of the people.

With only one caucus site in the County and some Counties sharing a single regional caucus site and caucus hours limited to the 6-hour period between 10 am and 4 pm, it seems that a lot of Kentucky Republicans will be prevented from voting their preference for Presidential candidate.

We are (or were) a Nation of laws and a law-abiding people. Now it seems that is still true unless you are a politician or a party official at the Federal, State or local level. Then you can evidently just make it up as you go along.

As a final note, I feel so strongly about this issue that when it happened last August, I went to the County Clerks office and changed my registration. After 54 years as a registered Republican, I am now a registered Independent.
