Mr. Clifford I. Carnes, Taylor Co., KY (1928-2016)

As a young man, he earned a living as a carpenter and in machinery work, but his earthly passion was being a family man. He leaves 44 direct and three step living descendants. He had a very close and special bond with all of his grandchildren. Outside of his family, his greatest love was his church. Early in life, he professed faith in Christ, and was a member of the God's Grace Church in Campbellsville, KY. He was a native of Russell County, KY, a resident of Taylor County, KY at the time of his death, and will be laid to rest in beautiful grounds of Bearwallow Cemetery in Adair County, KY.

Mr. Clifford I. Carnes, 87, of Campbellsville, KY left this life to rejoice with the angels on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Campbellsville, KY.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Carnes on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 12pmCT/1pmET in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Billy Adams and Bro. Fred Miller will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Bearwallow Cemetery, 6080 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY 42728. Mr. Carnes will be carried to his final resting place by Darin Carnes, Derrick Carnes, Davin Greenlee, Robert Lewis Carnes, Jr., David Mouser, and James Robert Meadows. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 29, 2016, from from 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET.

Mr. Clifford I. Carnes of Campbellsville was born on Tuesday, February 14, 1928, in Russell County, KY. He was the son of the late Stanley and Lona (Holt) Carnes. He died on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY. Mr. Carnes was 87 years, 11 months, and 13 days of age.

As a young man, he earned a living as a carpenter and in machinery work, but his earthly passion was being a family man. He had a very close and special bond with all of his grandchildren. Outside of his family, his greatest love was his church. Early in life, he professed faith in Christ, and was a member of the God's Grace Church in Campbellsville. Mr. Carnes united in marriage to Mrs. Betty M. (Bryant) Carnes, who preceded him in death in 1997. Later, he united in marriage to Mrs. Vernice Faye (Mouser) Carnes, who survives.

Mr. Carnes leaves to carry his legacy:
  • His wife: Mrs. Vernice Carnes of Campbellsville, KY

  • Three sons: Dennis Carnes and wife Viola of Indianapolis, IN; Robert Carnes and wife Patty of Buchanan, MI; and Clifford Larry Carnes and wife Mamie of Greensburg, KY

  • One daughter: Robin Burton and husband Gary of Campbellsville, KY

  • Three step-children: Larry Akin and wife Delora; Thomas Sprowles, and Genia Sherrill, all of Campbellsville, KY

  • One daughter-in-law: Joanne Carnes of Edinburgh, IN

  • Sixteen grandchildren

  • Sixteen great grandchildren

  • Seven great-great grandchildren

  • And a host of other family and friends
He was also preceded in death by three children, Ronald D. Carnes, Darlene Decker, and Gary Carnes (infant), and six siblings, Hollis, Rupert, Edmond, Isabelle, Dimple, and Jeanette.
