Roy Glenn Emerson, 77, Casey Co., KY (1938-2016)

Roy graduated from Middleburg High School in 1956. In 1958, he went to Lindsey Wilson College on a basketball scholarship before entering the US Air Force. Roy later enrolled in Miami University in Ohio where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He also went on to earn his Master of Arts Degree from Chapman University in 1976. Roy, a Navigator on a KC-135 Refueling Tanker, retired from the Air Force in 1984, having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He had a successful business career after retiring from the Air Force. His wife, Bonnie Jean Wesley Emerson, survives.

Roy Glenn Emerson, age 77, of Fort Worth, TX, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016, in Bartlett, TN.

Funeral services (POSTPONED INDEFINITELY DUE TO WEATHER) will be held at 1pmCT/2pmET, Friday, January 22, 2016, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Loren Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Springs Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5pm-7pmCT/6pm-8pmET, on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at the funeral home.



Roy Glenn Emerson, 77, Casey Co., KY (1938-2016)


Born November 24, 1938, in Pulaski Co., KY, he was a son of the late Everett Preston and Hazel Mildred Burton Emerson. He died Saturday, January 16, 2016, in Bartlett, TN, at the age of 77 years, one month, and 23 days.,

Roy graduated from Middleburg High School in 1956. In 1958, he went to Lindsey Wilson College on a basketball scholarship before entering the US Air Force. Roy later enrolled in Miami University in Ohio where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He also went on to earn his Master of Arts Degree from Chapman University in 1976. Roy, a Navigator on a KC-135 Refueling Tanker, retired from the Air Force in 1984, having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

After retiring from the Air Force, Roy began a successful career in the business world. He began his civilian career with American Airlines. He also worked for the McDonnell Douglas Corporation and for Hughes Training Incorporated, the company founded by Howard Hughes. He finished his career at Lockheed Martin Company in 2011.

Survivors include his dear wife, whom he wed on December 22, 1962, Bonnie Jean Wesley Emerson of Fort Worth, TX, and the following:
  • Sons: Judd (Kathleen) Emerson of Mansfield, TX; and Brad (Amy) Emerson of Lakeland, TN

  • Daughter: Ellen (Kendal) Ryter of Hamilton, MontanaM

  • Brother: Gerald Ray (Carolyn) Emerson of Stanford, KY

  • Seven grandchildren

  • Three step-grandchildren

  • Two step great-grandchildren

  • and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeffrey Gay Emerson; and sister, Sue Emerson Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Willow Springs United Methodist Church.
