Be vigilant - what does that mean to you?

by Linda Waggener

Many of our country's leaders say this is a time for Americans to "be vigilant" so I'm asking columbiamagazine.com readers what that means to you?

How do we live vigilantly by definition "keenly watchful to detect danger; wary" without being like the boy who cried wolf?

Does where we live make a difference?

Do you live in this region, Adair and surrounding counties? Do you live in Kentucky or a surrounding state? In a large city? Or in a foreign country? What do you think it means to "be vigilant" where you live?

Do you feel a need to be armed at all times in order to feel safe?

A favorite journalist says to simply live life and go by the trendy term, "If you see something, say something." But what is it we might see and say, and to whom?

Is it time to heed the message in Hebrews 12:12, "Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees" in order to make sure we Americans are muscular enough to stand up to danger?

My grandson once told me when we entered a place that "creeped him out" and so we changed direction. Is that what it means to "be vigilant", simply stating it out loud when something or someone creeps us out and putting a stop to it? Can it be a simple as listening to the still small voice and taking action?

What are your thoughts and plans on how you will "be vigilant"? Just click on the word "Comments" at the end of this story, if you'd like to share what your family is changing in order to feel safer in our new normal. Your name will be required and at the drop down arrow please "select a recipient" -- Linda Waggener.
