Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer Campbellsville Independent School District Twenty-two new members were inducted into Campbellsville Middle School’s National Junior Beta Club on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. To be eligible to become a member, CMS students must be a leader in their school, maintain a 3.5 GPA and commit to completing community service hours. Teachers can also nominate students to become members. At the induction ceremony, CMS Principal Elisha Rhodes said hard work has earned students a spot in the Beta club. " ... Not only in the classroom, but in the community as well." Rhodes said students should take pride in being a part of the Beta Club. She said CMS students look up to the Beta Club members. "Both leadership and character start with you," she said. Rhodes also thanked the parents and guardians of the new Beta Club members for allowing CMS teachers and staff members the opportunity to teach and guide them. "We are proud to be a part of their journey ... " she said. CMS seventh-grader Arren Hash, Beta chaplain, prayed that the new Beta members won't be afraid to meet new people and try new experiences. He said he is thankful for the opportunity to be a role model to the new Beta members. CMS seventh-grader Kenzi Forbis, who is president of the CMS Beta Club, said there are four ideals Beta members must have, including achievement, character, leadership and service. Each is represented with a key, Vice President Kaylyn Smith, a sixth-grader, said, and will unlock club members' futures. Current Beta members spoke about the qualities. Secretary Hassan Alabusalim, a seventh-grader, spoke about achievement. Seventh-grader and Beta treasurer Abi Wiedewitsch discussed character. Sixth-grader Lainey Watson, reporter, talked about the importance of leadership and Hash discussed service. New members were asked to recite the Beta pledge, which states they will be honest and truthful at all times, maintain a creditable scholastic record, be of service to others and behave in a manner that reflects credit upon the community and CMS. New members received a certificate of induction and a pin and were treated to refreshments after the ceremony. New Beta members are fifth-graders Graci Crews, Briana Davis, Konner Forbis, Whitney Frashure, Leigh Hicks, Brady Hoosier, Hayden Jones, Jacob Judd, Weston Mattingly, Zavian McColley, Bryce Newton, Karlee Rakel, Landon Robison, Mary Russell, Dakota Slone, Blake Tungate and Noah Wilson; sixth-graders Myricle Gholston, Tayler Thompson and Hayley Wethington; and seventh-graders Colton Burton and Jasmine Mitchell. The CMS Beta Club includes two divisions, an elementary division of fifth-graders and a junior division, which is made up of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. Several current Beta members were honored at the ceremony for advancing from the elementary to the junior division.
