Adair Schools announce new Gifted and Talented Coordinator Helping students reach their fullest potential By Shamarie Harper Adair County Schools, Media - PR /Technology Resource Teacher /Migrant Recruiter The Adair County Schools are proud to make the formal announcement that a hometown girl has been placed in the position of District Gifted and Talented Coordinator. Candice Flatt, the daughter of Edwin and Carolyn Taylor, wife of Daryl Flatt, has been given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students who show exceptional abilities in one or more areas such as academics, leadership, creativity, or the performing arts. Some students are identified in more than one area or all areas. Speaking as a parent of two such children myself, I am thrilled to see someone such as Candice have the opportunity to make this program her own and change the lives of our students. Candace brings a unique background to the program, she has taught in Adair County classrooms for 15 years. She has an Elementary Education B.S, Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a Gifted and Talented Endorsement, and a Rank 1 in Principalship for all grades, all these special skills combine to make Candice the perfect fit for the Gifted and Talented program. While her high energy and motivation add a dimension to her abilities and education that can't be duplicated, her love and genuine concern for her students will be the ingredients that will ensure she creates a program that our district will forever be able to take pride in. When asked what she wants the Adair County Schools Gifted and Talented program to look like Candice responded, "I want our students to reach their fullest potential. Our program, right now, has students who are in ACCEL HIGH, high school gifted and talented, who are practicing their role in leadership areas. They are teaching concepts they are learning about on our high school campus to younger gifted and talented students. They are bringing their education to life and boosting their confidence skills at the same time. They have a captive audience, which also helps build their confidence in themselves. It empowers them to use their gifts and talents, instead of shy away from them. My vision is for students to leave this program as confident individual who are ready to lead our next generation. While at the same time aligning our program with requirements set forth by the state and nation for our gifted and talented students. In the end, as I said, my greatest goal is for our students to reach their fullest potential." Everyone within the Adair County Schools is excited by the changes that have already transpired since August and know it is only the beginning of great things to come for our Gifted and Talented student population. Keep up the great work, Mrs. Flatt, we can't wait to see what you do next! The website for the gifted and talented program: www.acpsgt.weebly.com This story was posted on 2015-12-01 12:54:03
