Fleeing vehicle allegedly almost strikes Washington Co deputy

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

SPRINGFIELD, KY - 31-year-old Melvin L. Ison, of Harrodsburg, KY, was arrested on Monday, November 23, 2015 at approximately 11:07pmET and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st of a Police Officer.



At 4:39pmET, Post 15 was notified by the Washington County Dispatch that Washington County Deputy Sheriff, Charlie Osbourn, responded to a call of suspicious vehicles and possible drug activity on Murray Lane.

Upon arrival, Deputy Osbourn observed two pickup trucks and asked two passengers to exit one of the trucks. The operator of the second truck fled the scene in his vehicle, almost striking Deputy Osborn, who fired his weapon at the vehicle.

The truck was later located abandoned in Harrodsburg, KY, and it was learned that Melvin Ison had been the operator.

Ison was arrested in the limits of Harrodsburg without incident and lodged in the Marion County Detention Center. KSP Detective Jamie Richard is investigating.
Issuance of warrants and/or arrests are not findings of guilt. An individual charged by police or in a warrant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
