ACES students learn about other countries

Adair County Elementary School recently partnered with Lindsey Wilson College to host an "International Day" for students. ACES was honored to have LWC students from five countries visit our school and share with our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students about their homelands and culture.

This event, coordinated by ACES staff Alice Curry and Paula Bault and Lindsey Wilson College's Sabine Eastham, Director of International Student Programs was a wonderful collaborative event that provided much insight into the similarities and differences of the lives of people from all over the world.

ACES students were intrigued by the fact that all Swedish children begin to learn English in 3rd grade in addition to their native language. They particularly enjoyed learning the art of Origami from the Japanese students. The opportunity to learn first-hand information from natives of different countries rather than just viewing videos or PowerPoint presentations was the most important part of the day.

ACES students were also able to eat lunch with the LWC visitors; allowing for informal interaction and conversations.

The following LWC students met with the following grade levels:
  • 3rd graders learned about North Ireland (LWC student, Jack Meegan)

  • 4th graders learned about Switzerland (LWC student, Fabienne Rochaix)]and South Korea (LWC student, Jinyi Kim) Adair County Elementary School recently partnered with Lindsey Wilson College to host an "International Day" for students.

  • 5th graders learned about Sweden (LWC students, Emilia Jonsson, Johanna Henriksson and Amanda Kander) and Japan (LWC students, Eri Sugiyama, Yuu Iwashita, Kanako Kokumia, Mikoto Okawa, Ami Kumazawa and Megumi Sasaki)
"Lindsey Wilson College is a wonderful resource for our school and our students," said Alice Curry. "We truly appreciate their willingness to assist us with this event and look forward to future cultural diversity projects"
