LWC Athletics earn Champions of Character Gold Award

Columbia, KY - Lindsey Wilson Athletics is one of 29 NAIA institutions to earn to the Champions of Character Gold Award for 2014-15 academic year, NAIA officials announced on Friday, 11 Sep 2015.

Lindsey Wilson scored 90 points on the NAIA Scorecard to earn the top award.



"We are extremely proud of our coaches and student-athletes for of their hard work and dedication on the field and in the classroom," Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler said. "Equally as important and satisfying is their work in the community and their character while representing Lindsey Wilson.

"To earn a Gold Standard is always our goal and I want to congratulate our coaches and student-athletes on this outstanding achievement."

According to the NAIA, institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

The NAIA's Champions of Character program represents five core character values, which are Respect, Integrity, Responsibility, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship.

Gold standard institutions must score at least 90 out of a possible 100 points. Silver institutions earn between 75 and 89 while Bronze institutions earn between 60 and 74.

A total of 169 member institutions in the NAIA earned one of the three distinctions. Lindsey Wilson was one of three institutions named Gold from the Mid-South Conference.
