Pilot survives crash landing in Russell County, KY Plane had no other occupants. Pilot treated at Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY Click on headline for complete story From the Office of Russell County Sheriff Clete McAninch (Photo, left) from Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications, FM 92.7 the WAVE and 99.9 the Big Dawg On Friday, September 4, 2015, at approximately 12:50pmCT, Charles Monette, age 76, of Versailles, KY,, notified the Russell County Airport that he was experiencing engine trouble with his Piper airplane, approximately 5 miles north of Russell County Airport. A few moments later, Monette advised airport personnel he was not going to make it to the airport and was going to attempt an emergency landing in a field. Soon thereafterm the Russell County 911 Dispatch Center began receiving calls that an airplane had crashed in a field off of Little Clifty Road, approximately two miles northwest of Russell Springs, prompting a response from the Russell County EMS, Russell Springs Fire Department, Russell Springs Police Department, Kentucky State Police & the Russell County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Police, & the Russell County Sheriff's Department Upon arrival of first responders, Mr. Monette was standing a distance away from the aircraft and alert. He was transported by the Russell County EMS tot he Russell County Hospital for treatment of a head laceration and observation. Monette is expected to be released from medical care this afternoon. There were no passengers. Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are scheduled to arrive early next week to investigate the cause of the engine malfunction.
