Letter: Let's give our students a well-rounded education

Marsha Walker writes:
I don't remember our school district ever having a shortage of good buses. Our transportation directors have always recommended new ones when they were needed.

I remember well when the high school was built, a band room and auditorium were part of the building in the district facility plan. These have been pushed aside for many years. Our band has been denied long enough! Music education has not been a priority here (no classroom equipped for chorus?, no stage but the gym floor with sheets hung on poles?).

It is an accepted fact by today's experts that the arts are a VERY important part of education. I can't explain in words how much my seven years of band meant to my education. I don't remember anything about the buses I rode except they were not in the best condition for the most part. I'm sure a new garage is important to bus drivers and mechanics, etc., but not to our students. Let's give them what they really need - a well-rounded education! --Marsha Walker
