Adair Fire Department turns over records to State Police Financial discrepancies under scrutiny; investigation in the hands of the Kentucky State Police. Adair County Fire Department PIO, Chief issue statement, saying that future comments will come from the investigating agency By Josh Brockman PIO Columbia-Adair County Fire Department, Chief, Terry Flatt As you may have or not heard there has been a lot of talk in the community about things going on inside the operations of our Fire Department. In the last several days our board of directors composed of firefighters from within the department, were notified of some discrepancies in our financial reports given by our treasurer. The board quickly initiated an internal investigation and brought its findings before the entire department at a special called meeting last night August 3, 2015. After several hours of discussion the department voted unanimously to turn over our records to the KY State Police for investigation. This was very hard for the fire department members, as it was very emotional, for firefighters hold a strong bond of brotherhood with each other. However we have been supported by this community for over 60 years and at the end of the day, we are responsible to our members. When there is a potential problem, we have to insure that we do everything in our power to correct it, to not violate the trust of the community that we have worked so hard to achieve. We will not be releasing any further details on this issue as there is now a Law Enforcement investigation underway, and any questions regarding this incident should be directed to the Kentucky State Police as we don't want to interfere with their investigation.
