Alvin Hancel Humphress, Taylor Co., KY (1936-2015)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Christian Church. Mr. Humphress was a veteran, having served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne, and completed over 40 jumps. He was retired from Fruit of the Loom as operation manager of the distribution center. He was the son of the late John Alvin and Ruby Peterson Humphress. His wife of over 55 years, Elizabeth Goff, survives.

Mr. Alvin Hancel Humphress, was born January 1, 1936 in Taylor County and departed this life on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in Campbellsville at his home.

Graveside service for Mr. Alvin Hancel Humphress will be conducted Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 10amCT/11amET at the Harden Cemetery in Taylor County with burial to follow. There will be no public visitation.

He was the son of the late John Alvin and Ruby (Peterson) Humphress. He born January 1, 1936. He died June 13, 2015, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY. He was 79 years, 6 months, and 12 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Christian Church. Mr. Humphress was a veteran, having served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne, and completed over 40 jumps. He was retired from Fruit of the Loom as operation manager of the distribution center.

He united in marriage on July 12, 1958, to Elizabeth Goff, the daughter of Holman and Rachel (Tucker) Goff of Greensburg. Together, they devoted over 56 years of love to this union.

Besides his wife Elizabeth (Goff) Humphress, he is survived by:
  • Three brothers: Jolly and Kathryn Humphress, Donald and Charlotte Humphress, and Johnny Humphress, all of Campbellsville, KY

  • One sister: Kathleen and Paul Campos of California

  • Brothers-in-law: Thomas "Red" and Juanita Goff and Henry L. Goff, both of Campbellsville, KY

  • Sisters-in-law: Beverly & Mark Ponder of Yosemite, KY; and Berna Jean Goff of Greensburg, KY

  • And a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jessie Goff.
