LWC's Bautista selected in the 22nd round by Chicago Cubs By Chris Wells News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Alex Bautista took one step closer today to realizing his dream of playing professional baseball. The Brooklyn, New York, native was selected in the 22nd round - 653rd overall in the three day, 40-round draft - by the Chicago Cubs. "Alex was such an important player for our team this season and it is very gratifying as a coach to see his hard work pay off allowing him to achieve his ultimate dream," Lindsey Wilson baseball coach Jonathan Burton said. "Alex is a great young man that is going to represent our program with high character at the next level. "What he did this season was impressive but his best days are still ahead. The Cubs should be very excited about what the future holds for this young man." Bautista became the fifth Blue Raider to earn NAIA All-American honors this season. He led the Blue Raiders in runs scored (69), home runs (19), RBIs (72), slugging percentage (.728), stolen bases (27) and walks (24) during the 2015 season. Bautista's 19 home runs were the third most in the NAIA in 2015 and his total bases (155) and total RBIs both ranked sixth in the nation. He helped lead Lindsey Wilson to a 41-19 record and an appearance in the program's first AVISTA-NAIA Baseball World Series. Bautista was one of 41 players from the NAIA selected over the three days.
