Bobbie J. Coomer, Adair Co., KY (1947-2015)

She was a strong Christian, and a member of the Freedom Church of God. She was a an outgoing, enthusiastic and effective leader. She was a teacher and was passionate about her profession. She had retired from the Adair County Board of Education, enjoying a career spanning 27 years. She had been Special Education Director for the Adair County Board of Education and was President of the Adair County Retired Teachers Association at the time of her death. She was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was a member of a highly regarded Eastern Adair County family. She was the daughter of the late Robert Powell & Mildred Pierce Bailey. Her husband, Russell Coomer, survives. She leaves five direct living descendants.

Bobbie Joyce Coomer age 67 years of Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday May 26, 2015 at 12:11pmET at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY

Funeral service will be Monday, June 1, 2015 at 2pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Bro. Carlie Riggs & Bro. Scott Allen officiating. Interment will be in Freedom Cemetery, 576 Freedom Church Road, in Adair County, KY. Visitation will be after 1pmCT, Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers: Stacy Huff, Willard Coomer, Clifton Hadley, Gene Jessee Mathew Sabo and Clay Roy.

She was born on August 22, 1947 in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Robert Powell & Mildred Pierce Bailey. She died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 67 years, nine months, and four days.

She is survived by her husband, Russell Coomer, of Columbia, KY and the following:
  • One son: Mark Coomer & his wife Michele of Hendersonville, TN

  • One sister: Brenda Popplewell of Columbia, KY

  • Two brothers: Dennis Parker Bailey & his wife Jackie, and Danny Bailey & his wife Donna, all of Columbia, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Noah Coomer, Jade Coomer, Katie Coomer & Jonathon Coomer

  • Special niece: Jill Popplewell

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends survives.
Bobbie was a member of Freedom Church of God, was a retired teacher for the Adair County Board of Education, having worked for 27 years in the district. She was Special Education Director and was President of the Adair County RetiredTeachers Association at the time of her death.
