Where in the World? Photo correctly identified by many The Cut: One of the coolest places to see in Patty Jones' home county" Comments re photo 60362 Where in the world By Linda and Ed Waggener More responses came in on this "Where in the World?" photo than on any CM has run to date, at least in just over 24 hours. Many were exactly right! Others were a bit off, but still in the region somewhere. Johnnietta Jessie wrote, right off the bat, before the ink cold have tried on a newspaper, "The Cut at Rockland Mills in Metcalfe County. It is on the Little Barren and was used to relieve flooding in the bottoms on the other side of the river. There was a grist mill somewhere close to the cut." Spot on. It's The Cut, alright. Chris Reeder was right, too, but a little tentative. He wrote, "Metcalfe County near the the Little Barren River?" Patty Jones, a child of old Met, but maybe better known now as the Principal at Adair County Primary Center. She wrote, " You are at The Cut in Metcalfe County, for sure. One of the coolest places to see in my home county!" Mary K. Cassaday, another favorite daughter of Metcalfe County, wrote, "The Cut in Metcalfe County." Rick Harris wrote, "This photo is a picture of a place called 'The Cut' which is located on Rockland Mills Road in Metcalfe County, KY. Larry Smith, child of Summersville, KY, correctly identified the location: "That would be 'The Cut," in Metcalfe County, KY, relying on his sojourn at the Edmonton, KY radio station and Know Your County Better Tours, a requisite of citizenship in the Free State. Cynthia Meyer, a frequent traveler in North Metcalfe, wrote, 'Has to be The Cut in Metcalfe. Mary Ann Brown wrote, "Makes me think of the areas near Creelsboro or Rock House Bottom n Russell County," and she is right. It does make one think of that natural arch, but is not as show-offy as Rockhouse Bottom, so overstated one can't miss it. Robert Young wrote, "This photo looks like the Cut, between Sulphur Well and Knob Lick, in Metcalfe County, KY. Charles Marshburn who had just a few dozen hours ago been an Expeditionary Force on an Everything Everyone Has to Know About the Free State of Metcalfe, came up with this: "Isn't that the entrance to the Cumberland River near the sign warning of snakes?" No. next time he penetrates the bounds of Metcalfe, he'll need to find a whole new class of guide. Heck, a fellow like that, a sophisticated traveler who knows his way around Ankara, Madrid, Gainesville, Burkesville, and the twin cities, Fairplay/Gadberry, would surely picked up more in two hours in Sulphur Well than that. Poor fellow probably has no idea that Down is Up in Metcalfe County, and Over is Down, that one drinks from The Gum, where a Knob Licker comes from, or that or who Woodrow I was, etc. This story was posted on 2015-05-22 13:25:29
