Adair Co. Board of Education meeting 7 May 2015 Report

Way to Recovery wins drug test contract. Drop Out Specialist rehired. Board creates new PT position of Athletic Director for middle school. Golden Rule Wilson Realty granted free use of Adair County Middle School Gym. No Action follows executive session on Geo-Thermal Installation at Adair County Primary Center

The Adair County Board of Education approved a drug testing vendor, vote to waive fees on Adair County Middle school for use by a local realty company, continued the contract with a Drop-Out Specialist and voted to establish a position of Athletic Director for the Middle School, but failed to take any action after an approximately 30 minute executive session which took up most of the 40 minute session, which started at 5pmCT, Thursday, May 7, 2015, in the Board Conference Room.



Waiver of fees for use of School

The board voted 4-0 to waive fees for use of the Adair County Middle School gym by Golden Rule-Wilson Auction Company on a motion by Mike Harris, with a second by Terry Harvey, and Lisa Burton and Terry Harvey affirming in the show of hands vote.

Way to Recovery award drug testing contract

The board voted 3-0 to accept the bid by Way to Recovery to provide drug testing services. The vote followed a presentation by Robbie Harmon, Dean of Students, and an endorsement by David Jones, who said that Way to Recovery the Transportation Department had been pleased with Way to Recovery service. Harmon said that the other bid, by Premier Integrity Solutions of Russell Springs, KY, was $3,000 higher than Way to Recovery's cost. The award is on a year to year basis, with an option by the board to renew the contract for up to five years. The vote was 3-0, with votes for Way to Recovery by Members Lisa Burton and Terry Harvey and Chairman Floyd Burton. Board Member Mike Harris abstained.

Drop Out Specialist stipend of $5,000 per year continued

The board voted 4-0 to renew the stipend with Drop Out Recovery Specialist at $5,000 per year. All four members present voted for this item.

No action taken on Geo-Thermal legal action following Executive Session

The Board went into executive session pursuant to KRS 61.810(1)(c), pending litigation. With all four board members, Superintendent Alan W. Reed, and English, Lucas, Owsley and Priest (ELOP) attorneys LaJuana Wilcher and Sarah Jarboe, the attorneys representing the board in negotiations on legal action involving the Geo-Thermal Installation at Adair County Primary Center.

After return to open session, Chairman Floyd Burton announced that no action would be taken and the board voted to adjourn.

Present at the meeting were Superintendent Alan Reed and Board Chairm Floyd Burton (Div 4), Members Terry Harvey (1), Lisa Burton (3), and Mike Harris (5), Board Attorney Jeff Hoover, Transportation Director and Maintenance Supervisor David Jones, Dean of Students Robbie Harris, ELOP Attorneys LaJuana Wilcher and Sarah Jarboe, and members of the media. Board Member Quin Lasley (2) was not present.
