Jon Halsey: Outrage now is over Election Board refusal to explain

Personal commentary

Thanks to Sheila Blair for her response. Unfortunately my post was evidently not clear. I was referring to the actions of the Adair County Election Boards refusal to explain to the taxpayers why they felt their actions were necessary.

There is justifiable upset about the many problems outlined in Judge Vance's ruling. However, most of the people I've talked to are just as outraged by the refusal of the Board to explain why they filed the costly Appeal.

Now to the specific matters you address: If all public servants involved in the total election process had performed their jobs adequetly we would not be in this mess. I have yet to hear of anyone, myself included, call for public outing of exactly which offices or which specifically which individuals dropped the ball.

In summary, my concern and the concern of others is continued and growing disgust that our public servants appear too eager to put taxpayer's billfolds at risk for reasons that they seem unwilling to explain.

Hopefully Adair County voters will someday give a little more consideration to candidates who have some experience and/or education for the office they are seeking.

This extends to the appointment all those unelected "Taxing Authorities" who are evidently immune from any oversight by those who appointed them and are evidently answerable to no one.

The one boon that seems to come from this fiasco is a heightened awareness of what is at stake when we venture to the polls. It really is a little more important than voting for someone just because we "know" them or "they come from a good family." --Jon Halsey, Knifley, KY
