COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson men's track and field team captured the first Mid-South Conference Championship in program history on Saturday at Blue Raider Stadium.

The Blue Raiders accumulated 256 total team points to top the field of seven schools and capture the conference title. As a team, the men's squad racked up eight individual event victories on the day.

Dante Johnson was named the MSC Freshman of the Year after recording the points at the event by a freshman with 39, which was also the third most among all competitors.

Johnson dominated the hurdle events winning both the 110 meter and 400 meter hurdles. He added a runner-up finish in the 400 meter dash and a fourth place in the 100 meter dash.

Carmetrick Ross turned in an impressive performance on the weekend, falling just 1.5 points short of earning Athlete of the Year honors, which was awarded to the athlete with the most total individual points.

Ross won the 400 meter dash and added second-place finishes in the triple jump and high jump.

Tylor Pinkard racked up the points competing in six different events, including winning the decathlon. In the decathlon, Pinkard won the shot put, high jump and the 110 meter hurdle events.

John-Paul Williamson won a pair of events, the 1,500 meter run and the 800 meter run. He narrowly edged Shawnee State's (Ohio) Taylor Conn in the 800 meters by 0.39 seconds to capture the title. In the 1,500 meter run, Williamson cruised to nearly a four-second victory with a time of 3:59.79. He added a second place in the 5,000 meter run event.

Josh Kles recorded a win and a second-place finish on the day in the field events. He dominated the field in the shot put event, recording a national "A" standard distance of 15.89 meters (52-01.75 feet), setting a new MSC Championship record in the process en route to the event win. Kles finished over two meters ahead of the next competitor.

Kles then took second in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.64 meters (143-02 feet).

In the 5,000 meter race walk, Hayden Sorrels topped the field of nine racers with a time of 29:25.40, followed by a runner-up performance by Edward Weaver to grab 18 team points combined.

Max Cabe recorded a second-place finish behind Johnson in the 400 meter hurdles, grabbing eight vital team points.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Greg Hayes, Johnson, Josh Corral and Ross took second in the event, finishing just 0.70 seconds behind the event winner.

Event winners earned First Team All-MSC honors while event runner-ups earned Second Team honors.
