Vicky Pike: Agrees. Limits need to be set on utility bills

Cites a huge $900 plus water bill she received a couple of weeks ago from CAUD
Comments about: Comments re article 74194 Letter ColumbiaAdair Utilities

By Victoria Pike

I agree that something needs to be done to limit a customers liability in the water situation. I too had a call about a $900 plus water bill about two weeks ago. They did get me. However, I still have a huge water bill to pay. I was told by Lenny Stone there would be an adjustment to it but haven't talked to the secretary to see how much the adjustment will be.

We hadn't used water for several months but the meter cut off was still on and it was shut off at the spring house, where the pipes were wrapped and had heat. There should be a way for these meters to have some type warning device on them so if they break for whatever reason, the customer is notified before huge amounts of water run through the system and cause water to be wasted.

I feel this is a matter that needs to be addressed by the utility so that when we have a water break we don't end up with a bill in the thousands of dollars. I know now that the only way to prevent this is to completely shut off the water at the meter until I need it. However for those who need their water on at all times, there still needs to be a way to detect water leaks and let the customer know.

This is just merely a suggestion to the water board members that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. The employees of the water district are only doing their jobs with the instructions they are given to do that job.

I am only suggesting that this problem needs to be looked at to see how the system can be improved to better serve all the customers of the water district and save one of our most valuable resources, our water. - Victoria Pike
