Evan Bernard receives high honors from VSA By Shamarie Claiborne, District Migrant Recruiter/Media Promotions/Technology Adair County Board of Education Sometimes something great happens to the most deserving individuals. That would be the case, this past week, when Evan Bernard, a fourth grader in Mrs. Garmon's class at Adair County Elementary School received the news that his Art work had been accepted for the VSA Traveling Art Exhibit but that was not all, his piece was chosen for a holiday ornament that was given to all VSA board members --which is the highest honor. VSA Kentucky is the State Organization for Arts and Disability. VSA Kentucky is a non-profit organization that promotes arts, education and creative expression for all. The VSA Kentucky Student Traveling Art Exhibit, "A Matter of Perspective" is an annual exhibit comprised of original artwork created by students with disabilities from across Kentucky. This art exhibit is available to schools, museums, businesses, libraries, and hospitals across the Commonwealth each year. Students are encouraged to submit their original artwork each fall in order to participate in the exhibition. Evan's work will be showcased at the Exceptional Children's Conference in Louisville this November. For more about VSA you can go to vsartsky.org. Evan was on cloud 9 when I saw him and he wanted to thank Mrs. Bault for all her help with his piece. Mrs. Garmon had nothing but praise for Mrs. Bault as well since she is gracious enough to help each year with the art projects that are submitted by Mrs. Garmon's class. VSA sent Evan, Mrs. Garmon, and the school one of the ornaments and Evan chose to present it to Mrs. Bault for all her help. We are so proud of Evan for this accomplishment and his big heart!
