AC School Board approves amended 2014-15 calendar

Spring break remains intact; Memorial Day still a holiday, but school will be in session on Election Day, May 19, 2015

By Robbie Harmon

At 8amCT, this morning the Adair County Board of Education met for a special called meeting and one of the agenda items was the 2014-15 School Calendar. The Board was presented the results of the calendar survey as well as all the feedback that we received...Senate Bill 119 was also presented to the Board members...SB 119 allows districts to add Election Day back in and go under the 170 instructional days if we stay above the minimum 1062 instructional hours.

The Board approved the following for the 2014-15 calendar:
- Spring Break will stay fully intact April 6-10.
- School will be in session on Election Day May 19, 2015.
- No School Memorial Day May 25
- Instructional days will be reduced from 170-169.
The last day for students will be June 3, 2015.

Closing Day for students will be June 4, 2015.

**With the reduction of instructional days every employee that is on a 186 day contract must complete 7 planning days...One planning day was done as our fall Parent Teacher Conferences on November 14th so this will leave 6 flexible planning days...Originally there were 4 planning days but with the reduction of instructional days we had to add 3 more planning days to meet the 186 day contract requirement...The planning day form will be sent out near the end of school and should be completed/turned in on Closing Day. - ROBBIE HARMON, Dean of Students/Director of Pupil Personnel, Adair County Schools, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY
