Lindsey Wilson leads Learfield Cup standings

By Chris Wells

COLUMBIA, KY- Lindsey Wilson athletics sits atop the Learfield Sports Director's Cup first winter standings, National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics officials announced on Thursday.

Lindsey Wilson has accumulated 265.5 points during the winter sports championship season and currently has 542.5 total points to lead the cup standings.

Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) is second with 515.5 points followed by Oklahoma Baptist with 483.5 points.

The first winter ranking includes men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's indoor track & field and wrestling. Those five sports are joined by the fall sports -- men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball -- to reach the overall total.

The Blue Raider wrestling team earned 85 points towards Lindsey Wilson's total after placing third at last week's national championships. Women's swimming amassed 60 points for its 10th place finish while the men's swimming team garnered 48 points for a 14th place finish. Women's indoor track & field scored 42 points while men's indoor track & field picked up 30.5 points towards the Lindsey Wilson total.

Seven additional Mid-South Conference teams are in the rankings.

Cumberlands (Ky.) is 16th with 280 points, Cumberland (Tenn.) ranks 51st with 139 points, Shawnee State (Ohio) is 57th with 121.5 points, Campbellsville (Ky.) checks in at 69th with 98.5 points, Life (Ga.) is 73rd with 93 points, Georgetown (Ky.) is 75th with 89 points and St. Catharine (Ky.) is 125th with 25 points.

One hundred and forty-four schools have scored points during the 2014-15 championship seasons.

With the conclusion of the 11 NAIA championships, the following institutions captured national titles: Oklahoma City (men's cross country); British Columbia (women's cross country); Southern Oregon (football); Lindsey Wilson (women's soccer); Davenport (Mich.) (men's soccer); Park (Mo.) (volleyball); Oklahoma Baptist (men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving and women's indoor track & field); Indiana Tech (men's indoor track & field); and Grand View (Iowa) (wrestling).

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports -- six women's and six men's.

The final winter standings will be released later this month following the men's and women's basketball championships.
