ACHS Board Meeting Presentation, Mon 22 Feb 2015 Presentation before the Adair County School Board, Mon 23 Feb 2015 by Principal Troy Young and Assistant Principal Travis Gay. By Travis Gay, Assistant Principal, Adair County High School Adair County High School Principal Troy Young and Assistant Principal Travis Gay gave a short presentation over the state accountability model "Unbridled Learning" and how it affects Adair County High School. ACHS is scored in several categories; Gap, Growth, College and Career readiness, Graduation Rate, and KPREP and End of Course Exam scores make up 77% of the accountability model with Program Reviews making up the other 23%. Program reviews are conducted in Arts and Humanities, Writing, and Practical Living and Vocational Studies. While students are always the first priority at ACHS, it is important to have an understanding of this accountability model to see what aids in driving decisions. Mr. Young said, "College and Career readiness is a huge focus for our high school and district and it is hugely important, but at the end of the day it only accounts for 20% of 77% of our score." Mr. Gay remarked about the ACT score at the high school, saying we have put a lot of focus on our ACT performance and we have shown tremendous gains. We have an average composite of over 19 and have the second highest ACT score in neighboring counties, but again it is a small piece of the overall score." ACHS faculty and staff have data sets on all students in all areas of the accountability model that help drive decision making for each individual student at Adair County High School. The only piece of the accountability model where we can't pull a piece of data and tell you where we stand as a school or where that individual student stands is in GAP and that is simply because we do not know which direction the state will pull which student. Gay said. The increased focus on data driven direction and a better understanding of the accountability model have been huge factors in the continued growth and development of Adair County High School. - Travis Gay, Assistant Principal Head Football Coach Adair County High School This story was posted on 2015-02-25 07:56:37
