Adair County Primary Center SBDM Council Report - Feb 23, 2015

Below is Principal Jones' report to the Adair County School Board on Monday, February 23, 2015

By Patty R. Jones, Principal
Adair County Primary Center

Achievement
Based on Winter MAP Assessment criteria:
In both reading and math 80% or greater of our 1st and 2nd grade students are at or above grade level as indicated on the MAP assessment.

In kindergarten 60% or greater are at or above grade level. However, considering that at the beginning of the year greater than 60% of our students were considered not ready for kindergarten on the state mandated Brigance Screener, we feel good about how far they have come in a year.

Growth
When looking at the growth percentage data on the same MAP assessments in most areas and grade levels of growth well over 80% of our students are making anticipated growth on the MAP assessments. This is a measure that is being taken very seriously by our students and staff at ACPC.

School Environment And Culture
Many advances have been made in their area during our second year as ACPC. Our school "looks" more like a home for our students, not just an institution. This is thanks to the efforts of our Leader in Me Action team and the talents of many of our staff members, in particular, Darlene Campbell who has designed and painted the murals in our school.

In addition, the students and staff are embracing the principles of the Leader in Me program. You will "hear" the culture of Leader in Me being spoken and demonstrated by all at ACPC.

Funding
While we are working hard as a school community to raise funds for technology and playground equipment there is one area of need that we request assistance from the board. We have fully implemented a new Math Curriculum that is tied to Core Standards, but even with taking every penny we could find we could only partially implement a new Core Standards reading program. We have implemented the program in 2nd grade and are seeing amazing growth among those students. Our goal and need is to attain the necessary funds to implement this program in both Kindergarten and 1st Grade.

Overall we are extremely proud of ACPC and the accomplishments of our students, staff and community toward making it a school of which Adair County can be proud.
