James McArthur Royse, Adair County, KY (1926-2015)

He was a member of an highly respected, old line pioneer Adair County, KY, family. He was the son of the late Baruch and Mollie Morris Royse. His wife of 60 years, Zona Bradshaw Royse, survives. He leaves 14 direct living descendants. He was retired from the United States Postal Service, having started with the service in the tenure of Postmaster Ray Flowers, when the main post office on on the Square. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army, a Member and twice Grand Master of Columbia F & AM Lodge Post #96, a member of the Westlake Hospital Auxiliary, a Kentucky Colonel, and member of Columbia Union Presbyterian Church. He and his wife were long standing members of the ACHS Band Boosters serving for 16 years through the tenure of 3 of their children and even beyond.

James McArthur Royse, Beloved husband, father, granddaddy and servant of our Lord, passed away on February 21, 2015 at the age of 88.

Funeral services will be at 11amCT, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. The officiating clergy will be Rev. Willliam Sandell. Masonic Rites will conferred at 7pmCT, Tuesday, February 24, 2015, by Columbia Lodge No. 96. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at 4pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps- McQueary Funeral Home. Interment will be at Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors accorded by Columbia VFW Post 6097.

He was born Sunday, November 7, 1926. He was the son of Baruch and Mollie Morris Royse. He died Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the age of 88 years, three months, and 14 days.

He was retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army, a Member and twice Grand Master of Columbia F & AM Lodge Post #96, a member of the Westlake Hospital Auxiliary, a Kentucky Colonel, and member of Columbia Union Presbyterian Church.

He and his wife, Zona, were long standing members of the ACHS Band Boosters serving for 16 years through the tenure of 3 of their children and even beyond.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Zona Bradshaw Royse, and the following:
  • Four children: Linda (John) McGrew of Athens, Alabama; David (Molly) Royse of Farragut, Tennessee; Jean (Glenn) Thibodeau of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and John (Emily) Royse of Simpsonville, Kentucky

  • Seven grandchildren

  • Three great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbia Union Presbyterian Church.
