KY Highway Dept. crews face snow drift challenge In Bowling Green District, which includes Metcalfe County, Barren, Edmonson, and Todd Counties seemed to be hardest hit by gusty winds and consequent snow driftiing. Motorist urged to be patient. Clearing snow drifts is time consuming business. Click on headline for complete story By Wes Watt, Public Information Officer Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 3, Bowling Green, KY BOWLING GREEN, KY. (19 Feb 2015 at 5:08amCT)- Despite below zero temperatures, District Three crews worked through the night to improve road conditions. Because of the cold temperatures, salting was not an option last night, but if the sun comes out today salting may resume. Crews mainly worked on snow drifts that formed yesterday afternoon because of the gusty winds. All counties had snow drifts, but Barren, Edmonson and Todd Counties seemed to be hit the hardest by them. The gusty winds caused large amounts of snow to blow back onto roadways even ones that were cleared. Clearing snow drifts with temperatures as cold as they are is a time consuming process please be patient. Most A routes and a lot of B routes are considered to be a good shape unless a snow drift has occurred. There are some that are not in good shape, but many of them are. Crews will continue to work through the day and will work on what they can tonight. If motorists have to be out please use extreme caution. This story was posted on 2015-02-19 05:37:43
