Lucy Helen (Shofner) Skaggs, 83, Taylor Co., KY (1931-2015)

Mrs. Skaggs was a homemaker and matriarch of a large, well-respected family. She professed faith in Christ, and was a member of the Zion Separate Baptist Church. Mrs. Skaggs was the wife of Ernest Skaggs, Jr., who preceded her in death in February, 2006. She was a native of Taylor County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death.

Mrs. Lucy Helen (Shofner) Skaggs of Campbellsville passed from this life peacefully on February 14, 2015 at the Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Campbellsville, KY.

There will be a funeral service for Mrs. Skaggs held at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1765 New Columbia Rd., Campbellsville, KY 42718 on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 10amCT/11amET. The Rev. Ronda Arnett will be officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 17, from 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET. Mrs. Skaggs will be laid to rest beside her husband, and will carried there by her sons.


Mrs. Lucy Helen (Shofner) Skaggs, 83, Taylor Co., KY (1931-2015)

She was born Sunday, September 13, 1931. She was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Lillie Morning (Hedgespeth) Shofner. She died Saturday, February 14, 2015, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 83 years, five months, and one day of age.

Mrs. Skaggs was a homemaker and matriarch of a large, well-respected family. She professed faith in Christ, and was a member of the Zion Separate Baptist Church. Mrs. Skaggs was the wife of Ernest Skaggs, Jr., who preceded her in death in February, 2006.

Mrs. Skaggs leaves to carry her legacy:
  • Eleven children: Joyce Skaggs Cole and husband Ken of Louisville, KY; Mary Bright and husband Tony of Campbellsville, KY; Eyvonee Skaggs of Mt. Washington, KY; Garry Skaggs and wife Diane of Raywick, KY; David Skaggs and companion Pam of Campbellsville, KY; Annette Bolin and husband Steve of Campbellsville, KY; Robert Skaggs and wife Barbara of Campbellsville, KY; John Wesley Skaggs of Bardstown, KY; Tammy Morgan and husband Gary of Eubank, KY; Jerrit Skaggs and wife Teresa of Campbellsville, KY; and Julie Ann Yates and husband Robert of Lebanon, KY.

  • Twenty-three grandchildren

  • A host of great and great-great-grandchildren

  • And several other extended family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Lee Skaggs and Lawrence DeWayne Skaggs; And six siblings, Nora Sprowles, Ruth Gumm, Roscoe Shofner, Herman Shofner, Thomas Shofner, and John Shofner.
