Upset bid by Lindsey Wilson Men's Basketball falls short, No. 6 Campbellsville escapes with 78-69 overtime win Blue Raiders had a chance to win it in regulation, but the final shot went wide at the buzzer By Charles Balcom News from Lindsey Wilson College CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team nearly pulled off the upset, but ultimately fell to No. 6 Campbellsville 78-69 in overtime on Thursday, February 5, 2015, in front of a packed house at Campbellsville University's Powell Athletic Center. In a game that featured 13 ties and 10 lead changes, the Blue Raiders (13-11, 4-7 MSC) found themselves in a position to complete the upset at the end of regulation. With the game tied at 65-65, Lindsey Wilson dribbled down the clock and Julian Edmonson fired a three-point shot that sailed just wide of the mark, sending the game into overtime. The missed opportunity seemed to deflate the Blue Raiders as they went 0-for-4 from the floor, scoring their only points from the free throw line. As Lindsey Wilson struggled from the floor, the Tigers (21-3, 8-2 MSC) took advantage making their shots and getting to the charity stripe in the overtime period to take the lead and never look back, winning 78-69 by the final buzzer. Campbellsville opened the game strong, scoring the first seven points of the game and forcing Lindsey Wilson into an early timeout. The timeout worked as Lindsey Wilson calmed things down and went on a 13-4 run to take a 13-11 lead capped off by a two pointer by D'on Hall. The Tigers retook the lead and built a four-point advantage at 21-17 with 7:12 to play. But the next two minutes belonged to Lindsey Wilson as the Blue Raiders went on a 8-0 run to take a 25-21 advantage with 4:58 to play in the first. Campbellsville scored four straight before a pair of free throws by Julian Edmonson put Lindsey Wilson back up 27-25 with less than 30 seconds to play. The two-point lead would hold until halftime. Both teams struggled from the field in the opening half, Lindsey Wilson shooting 34.4 percent and Campbellsville shooting 32.1 percent. The Blue Raiders did win the rebounding battle 20-17, including three steals, all by Tony Horne. Lindsey Wilson also turned the ball over just four times compared to eight by the Tigers. Edmonson has 12 first-half points, Hall had three and Charles Sutton had three assists. The Blue Raiders continued to lead in the early parts of the second half, building as much as a six-point advantage at 40-34, their largest lead of the game. But five quick points by the Tigers trimmed it to a one-point game at 40-39 with 14:01 to go. The next nine minutes saw Lindsey Wilson try to extend their lead, but the Tigers answered every made basket with one of their own until a made shot gave Campbellsville a 57-55 lead, their first since the six minute mark of the opening half. The game stalled at 61-61 as both squads went into a cold spell until a pair of free throws by Sutton made it 63-61 with 1:33 to go. Both teams traded baskets again until the game was tied with 19 seconds to go. Edmonson's missed three sent the game into overtime. By the night's end, Edmonson recorded 21 points and Wallace had a team-high eight rebounds and added 13 points. Reco Lewis played arguably his best game of the year, notching a career-high with 14 points. Hall also finished in double figures with 10. Lindsey Wilson shot 34.7 percent from the field, 24.0 percent from three and 81.3 percent from the charity stripe. The Blue Raiders tied a season-low with seven turnovers. Campbellsville had 15 turnovers and out-rebounded the Blue Raiders 52-36 on the night. The Tigers shot 45.0 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from three, hitting 61.8 percent from the free throw line. D'Von Campbell led the Tigers with 22 points and Damontre Harris dominated in the paint, scoring 15 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Eric Gaines added 19 and Darius Clement finished with 12.
