Decade of Dominance: ACHS A-Team wins 10th district title 'On top of the accomplishment itself, the team has won District by large overall points margins in recent years despite a steady climb across the state in the level of academic competition overall. In fact, Adair is the only school south of Louisville and west of Lexington that has ever accomplished this feat. This year's competitors in Quick Recall were Timothy Watson, Brittany Curry, Rebecca Montgomery, Eli Jackson, Zane Sanders, Courtney Green, Treyton Grant, Austin Bradshaw, Benjamin Hancock, and Erwin Ruczienski. Photo(s) By Shamarie Claiborne, Media Publicity Coordinator News from Adair County School District The Adair County High School Academic Team won the 2015 Governor’s Cup District Championship on Saturday, January 24, for the 10th year in a row. The competition took place at Green County High School, and the Quick Recall team swept through each round of Quick Recall undefeated. In addition, the Future Problem Solving team—a perennial world championship qualifier—swept all judges’ top rankings for 1st Place in their competition. The feat of ten straight District titles engraves Adair County in the record books among few other teams at the high school level. Coach Brett Reliford commented about the accomplishment, "These kids have so much to be proud of, along with the school and past participants who started and continued this streak. They are part of a legacy that has come with a lot of hard work, time, dedication, and trust in each other and trust in their coach that the system works. This was no 10-year fluke." Highest number of individual qualifiers advance to Region In addition to the team championships, Adair County had the highest number of individual qualifiers to advance to Region once again. In six different testing areas, each team is allowed to enter up to three competitors. The top five out of all combined schools’ representatives in each written assessment category then advance to Region. A 1st in Math. A 1st in Social Studies. A 2nd in Science Seniors Brittany Curry and Timothy Watson each took two medals in their respective events. Curry won 1st place in Math, and Watson took 1st place in Social Studies. Curry followed her teammate in Social Studies by getting 4th. Watson led the school in Science and won 2nd place. A sweep in Social Studies Junior Zane Sanders completed the Adair sweep of Social Studies by getting 3rd Place and advancing to Region. In Science, Adair also took all available Regional slots they were eligible for with Freshman Benjamin Hancock claiming 3rd Place and Junior Eli Jackson getting 4th Place. Junior Courtney Green joined Curry in the Math competition by finishing in 2nd Place. Rebecca Montgomery, Treyton Grant formidable competitors Juniors Rebecca Montgomery and Treyton Grant continued last year's trend they set as two formidable competitors in Language Arts and Arts and Humanities. Montgomery continued her dominance in the Language Arts category with a 1st Place victory. Montgomery also took 1st Place in Arts and Humanities, two categories in which she advanced to State Finals last year. Eli Jackson and Grant provided the 1-2-3 sweep for Adair in Arts and Humanities by getting 2nd and 3rd respectively. Grant also advanced to Region once again in Language Arts with a 4th Place finish. Courtney Green earned her second medal of the day by securing 5th place. Future Problem Solving 1st Place too In addition to the Future Problem Solving 1st Place finish, Senior Jessi Taylor advanced to Region in Composition once again by finishing in 3rd place. Regional Championships at Russell County High School Regional Championships will be held on February 10 and 14 at Russell County High School featuring all of the qualifiers from four Districts that stretch all the way to the Bowling Green area. Adair County High School now enters the next phase of competition where they have the distinction of being a 4th Region Champion in a team event for the past 10 consecutive years.
