George Reed, Adair Co., KY (1926-2015)

He was a highly decorated veteran of World II, who served his country courageously in the United States Army receiving three bronze stars serving in Central Europe, also good conduct medal, victory medal, Army of occupation medal Germany. He will be accorded full military honors by Columbia VFW Post 6097 at commital rites. He was a member of Bearwallow United Methodist Church, a farmer, He was a native of Leslie County, KY, and a resident of Adair County, KY, at the time of his death. He will be laid ot rest in his adopted county. He was the widower of Edith Shelly Reed. He leaves four direct living descendants.

George Reed age 88 years of Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015 at 11:17amCT, at his home.

Funeral service Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with clergy officiating Bro. Paul Wayne Goodin and Rev. Glenn LaFond. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery with full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the funal home. Pallbearers Keith Reed, Dustin Reed, Austin Reed, Joshua Reed, Jimmy Jenson and Cody Slusher.



George Reed, Adair Co., KY (1926-2015)


He was born on February 3, 1926 in Leslie County, KY. He was the son of the late Robert Boyd & Abby Napier Reed. He died Tuesday, January 27, 2015, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 24 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Shelly Reed, on January 17, 1989 and one son Ernest Reed.

He survived by the following:
  • One son: Charles Wayne Reed & wife Phyllis Sue of Glasgow, KY

  • Daughter-in-law: Bernice Reed of Hardy, Arkansas

  • Three sisters: Lula Cheatham of Columbia, KY; Beulah Baker of Hodgenville, KY; and Lola Asher of Roark, KY

  • One brother: Ross Reed of Roark, KY
  • Three grandchildren: Edith Louise Jensen, Sarah Reed and Joshua Reed

  • Three great grandchildren: James, Madison and Jordan

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives & friends survive
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister Roy Reed, Ray Reed, Russell Reed & Eula Goodin.

He was a member of Bearwallow United Methodist Church, a farmer, a veteran of World War II served his country in the United States Army receiving three bronze stars serving in Central Europe, also good conduct medal, victory medal, Army of occupation medal Germany.
