Margaret Meeks Cowan, Casey Co., KY (1932-2015)

She was a native of Casey County, KY, the daughter of the late Jesse D. and Ethel B. Emerson Meeks. At age 8, she moved to Ohio and later attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati, OH. She was baptized October 15, 1950 at Lockland Baptist Church in Lockland, OH. She moved to Kentucky in 1971 and attended the Danville School of Nursing. Mrs. Cowan later retired as a LPN from the VA Medical Center. She leaves 19 direct living descendants.

Margaret Meeks Cowan, age 82, passed away on January 23, 2015, at the Dover Manor Nursing Home in Georgetown, KY. Born August 27, 1932, in Casey Co., KY, she was a daughter of the late Jesse D. and Ethel B. Emerson Meeks.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:30pmCT/1:30pmET, Monday, January 26, 2015, at Spaw Cemetery with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Spaw Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015, from 10am-12pmCT/11am-1pmCT,at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY.



Pallbearers will be Kelly Mullins, Charles, Casey, and Caleb Cowan, Austin Volk, and Terry Justice.

Born August 27, 1932, in Casey Co., KY, she was a daughter of the late Jesse D. and Ethel B. Emerson Meeks. She died Friday, January 23, 2015, in Georgetown, Scott County, KY, at the age of 82 years, four months, and 27 days.

At age 8, she moved to Ohio and later attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati, OH. She was baptized October 15, 1950 at Lockland Baptist Church in Lockland, OH. She moved to Kentucky in 1971 and attended the Danville School of Nursing. Mrs. Cowan later retired as a LPN from the VA Medical Center.

Survivors include:
  • Her daughter: Terry (Kelly) Mullins of Berea, KY

  • Sons: Robert Cowan of Lancaster, KY; and Charles (Devonne) Cowan of Georgetown, KY

  • Brother: Richard Meeks of Ohio

  • Sister: Audrey Roemhild of Phelan, CA

  • Four grandchildren

  • Six great-grandchildren
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the National Audubon Society, Attn: Audubon Angel, 225 Varick St, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10014.
