CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The largest bull's-eye in program history was placed on Campbellsville University men's basketball entering Wednesday's non-conference game, but the No. 1 ranked Tigers didn't falter. Campbellsville knocked down 13 3-pointers and held Asbury below 23 percent from the arc in an 84-60 win at Powell Athletic Center.

"We more than did our job defensively. Coming into this one I was hoping we'd win this game with defense, and two games in a row we've only given up 60 points," CU head coach Keith Adkins said. "They were 6-of-27, that's a great number for us because we have prided ourselves on defending the 3-point line the last few years. We've been the Top 5 to 10 in America."

Those six 3s didn't come until the second half, as CU held the Eagles' top two shooters, Kyle Lamb and Jordan Gilbert, to a combined 2-of-8 from the arc and eight total points.

CU was playing without starters Damontre Harris and Miles Rice as well as reserve Demarcus Page. However, they didn't seem to miss a beat with Elliott Young and Shawn Johnson filling in the paint.

"As players, and as a coach, you get spoiled having a 6'10" shot-blocker and game-changer standing around in the post. When you make mistakes, you have the eraser back there, and all of a sudden you turn around, and you don't have them," Adkins said. "A big congratulations to those who played tonight, and even to those on the bench who didn't play. I thought those guys who left us short-handed tonight were terrific as teammates, and that's all part of it."

Young and Johnson each secured a career-high 12 rebounds, including five off the offensive glass. Young was also the only player to finish with a double-double, scoring 15 points. Johnson finished with seven.

"Elliot's gotten great minutes ever since he walked in the door here, but Shawn comes into a situation where you have a first team All-Conference guy coming back and a 6'10" future pro standing down there, so it's hard to get the minutes a young man needs," Adkins said. "A game like this is so, so valuable for him to just feel good about what he's doing. He's been practicing well lately and has played well the last couple of games."

The Tigers were led on offense by Rob Robinson's career-high 24 points, tying the mark for the most points this season by at Tiger player in regulation. Robinson hit back-to-back 3s to break the game open, roughly five minutes into the action. Asbury and CU traded baskets early, with the Eagles leading 8-7, before Robinson's spark.

The Chicago native and former Illinois-Chicago and Iowa Western player led CU with four 3s, while Young and Quin Richardson each had three. D'Von Campbell added two of the Tigers' baker's dozen.

Campbell, who finished with 17 points and nine assists, hit a 3 to give the Tigers their first double-digit lead at 28-18. CU used a 17-2 run to claim its largest lead of the first half at 19 points, 39-20, on another Campbell basket. Young ended the half with a layup at the buzzer to main the 19-point margin at halftime, 46-27.

Dairus Clement hit his only 3 of the game early in the second half to push the Tigers to 20 points, 52-32. CU later used a 13-2 run to take its largest lead of the night at 30 points, 73-43, following a Johnson free throw.

Two other CU players had career-high numbers, as birthday boy Eric Gaines had a career-high five assists to go along with six points and seven boards, while Micah Satterly, playing in his third game, had his varsity high on the glass with three boards.

CJ Penny, Kristian Morgan and Tyler Smith led Asbury with 15, 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Campbellsville (17-1) is now riding an 11-game win streak for the first time since 2009-10 and is off to its best start since a 17-1 run in 2006-07.

"We didn't put this schedule together to be 17-1. We put this schedule to be ready for Mid-South Conference play," Adkins said.

"Going to (No. 4) Benedictine, (No. 20) Evangel, (No. 19) Philander Smith and playing (receiving votes) John Brown, we did this hoping it would make a difference for us and all of a sudden, boom, we're 17-1. I didn't see that with this schedule. Give our guys credit. They've taken every single game we've played at face value, and they understand the importance of every single game."

Campbellsville Basketball will host Fisk University, Monday, January 12, 2015, with a 5pmCT/6pmET, game between the No. 3 Lady Tigers and Fisk, followed by the No. 1 Tiger Men and Fisk, at Campbellsville University's Powell Athletic Center, 203 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY.
