Mike Watson: Mike Stephens will be the 25th County Judge Today is Inauguration Day - or "Swearing In" Day - for Columbia-Adair County, KY. The 2015 Columbia and Adair County Swearing In Ceremonies are today, at 2pmCT, at the Adair County Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Mike Watson, in answer to a CM query, tells us, "According to my calculation, Mike Stephens is the 25th county judge to serve since the New Kentucky Constitution of 1849-50 created the office. The first to serve in the capacity, Eli Wheat, was elected 1851. Several who have served have had more than one term." He added a footnote, "Almost forgot to mention this; I don't think most counties of our size have ceremony events, but ours developed some years ago and is quite nice, I think." . This seems to be the case. Larry Smith of FM 99.9 The Big Dawg and FM 92.7 the WAVE, said that Taylor County, KY, he's under the impression that officials are sworn in private sessions or at a regular meeting of the body.
