By Tyler Scott News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - The 24th-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team came up short in a 69-64 loss to 15th-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene (KS) Saturday afternoon, Januray 3, 2014, at Biggers Sports Center. In the first half, MidAmerica Nazarene (10-4) jumped out to an 8-3 lead four minutes into the game. Lindsey Wilson (11-4) grabbed its first lead of the game at 9-8 after two baskets by Roberts and one basket by Cassidy Martin with 12:11 to go in the first half. The Pioneers grabbed the lead once again and stretched it to seven points at 18-11 with 9:16 remaining in the first half. Both teams then traded baskets before Bre Elder tied the game at 29 with 4:34 left in the first half. MidAmerica Nazarene closed the first half on an 8-3 run to take a 37-32 halftime lead. The Blue Raiders shot 40.7 percent from the floor in the first half, while the Pioneers shot 41.2 percent. Lindsey Wilson shot 2-of-8 from beyond the arc for 25 percent and MidAmerica Nazarene went 3-of-8 from three-point range for 37.5 percent. In the second half, both teams traded baskets early. With Lindsey Wilson trailing 45-37 with 17:07 remaining in the game, MidAmerica Nazarene scored a basket to grab its largest lead of the game of 10 points at 47-37. Lindsey Wilson then went on an 8-0 run in a span of four minutes to cut the deficit to two at 47-45. After two free throws by the Pioneers and a basket by Billie Hearn, Roberts scored a basket to tie the game at 49 with 10:52 left in the game. The Blue Raiders then grabbed the lead after a basket by Bre Elder to give the team a 51-49 lead with 10:08 left in the game. It marked the first time the Blue Raiders held the lead since the 27-26 mark with 5:45 remaining in the opening half. With 5:51 to go in the game, Kayla Richardson connected on a three-point basket to cut the Pioneers lead to one at 58-57. The teams traded baskets again as MidAmerica Nazarene led 60-59 with 3:49 to play. The Pioneers then scored two-straight baskets to take a 64-59 lead with 1:27 remaining in the game. After a pair of free throws by Richardson, the Pioneers scored five-straight points to take a 69-61 lead with 15 seconds left in the game. Chanel Roberts posted her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Elder finished with 14 points, while Richardson and Chinn also tallied double-figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. MidAmerica Nazarene had five players score in double figures led by Daria Sprew's double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds.
