By Michael Goins, Director of Communications House Republican Leadership FRANKFORT, KY (December 30, 2014) - House Republican Whip John ‘Bam’ Carney, R-Campbellsville, KY announced today he would not seek re-election to the post, which he has held since 2013. Representative Carney informed House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover, R-Jamestown, of his decision in a written letter. "After much thought and prayer over the past month, I have decided not to seek re-election for the position of House Republican Whip. As many know, I have recently remarried, moved into a new house, and combining our families has been a wonderful experience," Rep. Carney wrote. "With our sons now in high school and leaving the nest in the next couple of years, I feel it is more important for me to devote my time to my family." "Representative Carney has done a tremendous job in serving as House Republican Whip for the last two years," said House Republican Floor Leader Hoover. "His leadership in that role is matched by his compassion and desire to serve the people of his district, and the Commonwealth as a whole in striving for the betterment of Kentucky." Representative Carney was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2008, and represents Adair and Taylor counties in the 51st District. "I am proud to be a member of the House Republican Caucus and privileged to serve as the Whip," said Rep. Carney in his letter. "I will continue to represent the good people of Taylor and Adair counties as their State Representative, and I look forward to working with Leader Hoover and the other members of Leadership.
