Joyce Coomer commentary on birds and solar power

By Joyce Coomer
Commentary

Two articles about birds being killed around solar farms . . .
- Scientific Amerian: Solar Farms threaten birds

- Science News: Solar/Plants/Birds
There is another threat to wildlife and the environment that isn't mentioned in either of these articles - poison in the form of herbicides. Solar power sources are dependent on sunlight so anything that would shade the solar panels has to go. Herbicides are the most likely form of plant control as other methods are time and labor-intensive.

Before we blithely embrace any new technology, we need to thoroughly study its effects. - Joyce M. Coomer
