News from Adair County School District

The ACHS Academic Team repeated as Green River Regional Academic League Champions on Monday, December 1, as they hosted the final night of the three-month-long competition. Adair entered the evening as the number one seed and swept through the final night's tournament with double-digit victories in each round to be crowned champions. Since the inception of the Fall League in 2007, Adair County has claimed the title every year, which has featured teams from Taylor, Russell, Larue, Campbellsville, and Green in that span.

Quick Recall members - include 12th graders Timothy Watson and Brittany Curry; 11th graders Rebecca Montgomery, Eli Jackson, Courtney Green, Zane Sanders, Austin Bradshaw, and Treyton Grant; 10th grader Erwin Ruczienski; and 9th graders Benjamin Hancock and Charles Jones.

The team also led all teams in the number of individual Written Assessment placements in the categories Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Arts and Humanities, and English Composition. The team swept 1st Place in four of the six categories.

The medal tally was led by Timothy Watson, Brittany Curry, Rebecca Montgomery, Treyton Grant, Eli Jackson, and Jessi Taylor, who all won 2 individual medals a piece. Watson took 1st Place in both Science and Social Studies, and Curry earned 1st Place in Math and 3rd in Social Studies. Both Seniors are now multiple time champions in those three academic divisions.

Rebecca Montgomery and teammate Treyton Grant tied for the Language Arts championship. Montgomery finished as runner-up in Arts and Humanities by one question, while Grant and fellow Junior Eli Jackson finished 3rd in both Science and Arts and Humanities in his first year as a varsity member of the team. This was Rebecca Montgomery's second championship in Language Arts. 12th grader Jessi Taylor, a Governor's Cup State Finalist in previous years, was Adair's representative in English Composition and took 2nd Place and also took 4th Place in Arts and Humanities. Junior Courtney Green made an impressive showing by earning 3rd Place in Language Arts, her second medal in that event over the last two years. Zane Sanders took 4th Place in Social Studies, just behind teammate Brittany Curry, and Freshman Benjamin Hancock took home his first individual medal with a 5th Place finish in Science.

Now, the team now begins its post-season Governor's Cup preparation for January as they target the District Championships in the first leg of the Governor's Cup event, which will be held at Green County High School. Adair County heads into the competition as defending Champions for the past 9 consecutive years.
