Elizabeth Anne Hall Burress, Taylor Co., KY (1938-2014)

She was born Elizabeth Anne Hall on February 19, 1938 to Dr. Michael M. Hall and Mrs. Elizabeth Shively Hall, of Campbellsville, Kentucky. She died November 28, 2014, at the age of 76 years, nine months, and nine days.

She obtained degrees from Campbellsville High School, Agnes Scott College, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky University.

She married Allen L. Burress in 1960. Allen and she lived in Nashville, Tennessee for over ten years while having their three children, Allen, Jr., John and Elizabeth. In the early 70s, they moved back to Campbellsville, Kentucky to be with their families.

Anne had a wonderful career at Campbellsville High School.

She taught English, French and served as the librarian for 27 years. To say that Anne was an avid reader is an understatement. There was not a time when she was well that she wasn't reading one or more books. She loved the outdoors and traveling. When not reading, she was tending one of her gardens, hunting for wildflowers with Bea Montgomery or on the lake with Allen. She played with several bridge clubs over the years. Later in life, she enjoyed spending the winters in Orange Beach, Al. She was a member of the DAR and Bethel First Presbyterian Church.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Abby Hall Carter and one son, Allen Lee Burress, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Allen L. Burress, and the following:
  • Son: Dr. John W. Burress and his wife Dr. Vicki Modest of Weston, MA

  • A daughter: Elizabeth B. Bowden (Jameson).

  • Five grandchildren: Emily, Jessica, Ellie and Grace Burress, of Weston, MA and Alexander Hale of Louisville, KY.
  • She has one brother: Mike Hall, Sr. (Lennie), of Campbellsville.

  • Three nephews: Don Henderson, Lee Henderson and Michael Hall, Jr.

  • Two nieces: Michelle Hall O'Rourke and Abby Carter Emanuelson, along with their respective families.
The family wishes to thank all the wonderfully special people who have helped care for Anne over the last ten years. She would not have been with us so long had it not been for all of you.
