Sue Stivers: Shop Local Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce Commentary Chamber Insights Nov 2014 Editorial of the Month: By Sue C. Stivers, Executive Director, Columbia/Adair Co. Chamber of Commerce The Holiday season is here. Time to start shopping for gift giving for family and friends. It's also a great time to transform our community into a retail destination, draw traffic and encourage sales. Buying local is the right choice for our families, schools and for our community. Investing in our locally owned businesses and keeping your money in our Community is an important way of keeping our Community strong. For example:
Let me ask you a question. When you or your organization are raising funds for a particular cause, where do you go to ask for a donation? Do you go to out of town businesses where you shop and ask them for money? Do you go to the out-of-town Mayors & City Councils and the County Judges & Fiscal Courts to ask for tax money? If you do I have not heard about it. But I do know that our county people ask for local tax money for projects. Together we can strengthen relationships that improve our quality of life. So next time before you make a purchase in another City, ask yourself this question. Is it something you can buy locally? "THINK, SHOP, BUY, LOCAL." - Sue Stivers, Executive Director, Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. Phone 270-284-2730.
