Ben Arnold says he'll file petition to void mayoral race Petition will request a new election, he said Ben Arnold, who came in second to Curtis Hardwick in the November 4, 2014, election, said in a telephone interview that he plans to file a petition through his attorney, Elmer George of Lebanon to have the results of the mayoral election nullified and for a new election to be ordered. "It was a fatally flawed election," he said. Arnold cited these factors:
He said that the only way to accurately tabulate the vote would be by a hand inspection of all the ballots. He said that at least one election report, from Election Sheriff Vicky Pike at South Columbia #2 precinct, indicated that a number of people may have become so frustrated in their efforts to vote that they gave up when there were no county paper ballots at 9:19amCT. The precinct didn't receive more until 12:45pmCT, approximateley four hours and people got tired of waiting.. That report is public record, and a copy of the report has been requested by ColumbiaMagazine.com Arnold said, at the time of the interview, that the petition might be filed in Circuit court as early as Friday, November 21, 2014, and no later than Monday, November24, 2014. He added, "I'm not not blaming anyone. But a series of events occurred which add up to a flawed election. I believe that there is strong evidence that enough errors occurred that I would have won the election had they not taken place. I think I owe it my supporters to take this action," he said. - Ed Waggener This story was posted on 2014-11-20 18:22:13
