Lilburn (Tuny) Oakes, 67, of Russell Springs, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Russell County Hospital. Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral service for Lilburn "Tuny" Oakes will be 9amCT, Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Kelly Burton, Jr. and Bro. Bobby Oakes officiating. Visitation after 5pmCT, Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Parks Ridge Cemetery.

He was born Saturday, October 4, 1947 in Russell County, KY. He was the son of the late Junie & Lorine Crockett Oakes. He died Wednesdya, November 19, 2014, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 67 years, month, and 15 days.

He was a fork lift operator.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Crabtree and two brothers, Paul & Phillip Oakes.

Survivors include the following:
  • Six children: Kristi (Scott) Harrington, Godley, IL; Shelli (Tom) Christian, Oswego, IL; Tanya Oakes-Shubert, Greenup, IL; Benjamin Oakes, Russell Springs, KY; Brent (Christina) Oakes, Peoria, IL; and Samantha "Sammy" Oakes, Forrest, IL

  • Eight grandchildren

  • Two great grandchildren

  • Sisters: Reva (Darrell) Richardson, Louisville, KY; and Gila (Dean) Gaskins, Louisville, KY

  • Four brothers: Ruel (Margaret) Oakes, Lewell (Helen) Oakes, and Marshall Oakes, all of Russell Springs, KY; and Dewell (Joyce) Oakes, Columbia, KY
