No. 5 Lindsey Wilson Men's Soccer ties 2nd-ranked Ashford, 1-1 Blue Raiders play next in Mid-South Conference Tournament By Matthew Stokes COLUMBIA, KY- The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team played No. 2 Ashford (IA) to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Playing in their 2014 regular-season finale, the Blue Raiders (11-2-2) outshot the Saints (10-1-5) by a 20-7 margin, including an 8-4 edge in shots on-goal. Following a scoreless first half of play, Lindsey Wilson broke through for the match's first score in the 51st minute. With the ball on the Ashford side of the field, Tom Moody sprinted toward the endline and crossed the ball back to the face of the goal, drawing out Saint goalkeeper Chris Higgins. With the Ashford goal now vacant, Anthony Tshimpi corralled in the ball and sent it home for a 1-0 Blue Raider lead. The Saints responded early in 75th minute to knot up the match. A ball sent downfield resulted in a header by Ashford's Casey Culver, which Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Dalyan Hawes charged out and in a collision punched away for a save. But as the loose ball rolled toward the Blue Raider goal, the Saints' Leonardo Machado gathered in the ball and found the back of the net for the equalizer, 1-1. That Machado goal would end up as the match's final scoring play. Lindsey Wilson held a 14-8 advantage over Ashford in corner kicks. Hawes allowed a goal and made a pair of saves for the Blue Raiders. For the Saints between the posts, Higgins surrendered a goal and turned away seven shots. - News from Lindsey Wilson College This story was posted on 2014-11-02 01:52:51
