Geneva Kessler, Portland, Adair Co., KY (1928-2014)

She was the matriarch of a highly regarded Northwest Adair County, KY, families. She a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Arod & Bessie Keltner Edwards. Her husband, Garnett Kessler, survives. She leaves 12 direct living descendants. Geneva Kessler, 86, of the Portland community of Adair County, KY, died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:30amCT, at her home.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Herbert Janes, Bro. Pat Smith & Bro. Ron Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 5pmCT, Monday, October 6, 2014.



Nephews and great-nephews will serve as casket bearers and the Men of the Portland Community and Pickett's Chapel Church will serve as honorary casket bearers.

She was born January 13, 1928, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Arod & Bessie Keltner Edwards. She died in Portland, Adair County, KY, Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the age of 86 years, eight months, and 22 days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Kessler and her brothers & sisters; Huston, Hubert & Ralph Edwards, Elsie Feese Cole, and Elizabeth Rodgers.

She was a member of Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church and operated Kessler's Grocery in Portland for nearly 50 years.

Survivors include the following:
  • Her husband: Garnett Kessler of Portland, Adair County, KY

  • Two sons: Edward (Linda) Kessler of Portland, Donald (Christy) Kessler of Somerset, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Eddie (Tiffany), Kevin (Arlinda), Timothy, Holly and Lauren Kessler

  • Seven great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Alexis, Jera, Kyla, Colin, Keaton & Kasey Blue

  • Sisters in law: Billie Jo Edwards and Carolyn Finn, both Columbia, KY

  • Several other relatives and friends.
