ST. CATHARINE, KY - After a scoreless first half, a pair of goals from Caio Da Cruz and Aleksi Pahkasalo helped the ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over St. Catharine (KY) on Tuesday night.



The Blue Raiders improve to 6-2-1 on the season with a 2-0-1 mark in Mid-South Conference play. St. Catharine slips to 6-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the MSC with the loss.

Lindsey Wilson had nine first half shots

Lindsey Wilson managed nine shots in the first half compared to one by the Patriots, but just three were on target. Anthony Tshimpi led with three shots including one on goal.

The Patriots lone shot of the first half came in the second minute which was turned away by Blue Raider starting goalkeeper Dalyan Hawes.

First Blue Raider goal in 54th minute

After halftime, the Blue Raiders were finally able to break the scoreless tie in the 54th minute.

Aleksi Pahkasalo delivered a cross into the box on a corner kick that Caio Da Cruz met and headed home for the 1-0 lead. It marks the first goal of the season for Da Cruz and is Pahkasalo's team-leading fourth assist of the year.

Pahkasalo was it again in the 81st minute, this time scoring a goal of his own. The Vantaa, Finland, native rifled a shot that tipped off of St. Catharine goalkeeper's fingertips and into the back of the net to double the Blue Raider lead at 2-0. The goal is Pahkasalo's team-leading fifth of the season.

Christopher Gatara makes season debut and records one save

Christoffer Gatara made his season debut and recorded one save on the night in goal after replacing Hawes between the posts in the 19th minute.

St. Catharine goalkeeper CJ Powell turned away five Blue Raider shots but gave up the two Lindsey Wilson scores.

Adis Islamovic led the way with five shots including three on goal while Pahkasalo and Yazeed Davids each had four shots.

The Blue Raiders outshot the Patriots 19-4 on the night with an 8-2 shot on goal advantage.
