4 additional Columbia PD officers on campus in 3 minutes Update in this statement notes that that Director of Pupil Personnel Robbie had the campus first on Hard Lockdown, with no one entering or leaving the building and classroom doors secured as well as all entrances, and was later modified to Soft Lockdown, under which no one enters or leaves the building. The case is still under investigation; CPD has found no evidence of a gun involved. The investigation is ongoing by School Resource Officer Kevin Atwood as to the origin of the report of the juvenile being armed as no weapons were located at the time he was taken into custody. Click on headline for complete story By Ofc. Josh Brockman, Public Information Officer Columbia Police Department, Chief, Jason Cross Columbia Police Department investigated possible threat at Adair County Schools, prompting school officials to initiate a campus lockdown. At 1:05pmCT on Thursday, 25 Sep 2014, Columbia Police Department School Resource Officer Kevin Atwood notified Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross of a potential threat on school grounds, and requested additional units to assist him. Ofc. Atwood advised that the incident involved a suspended juvenile and the possibility that he was armed and on or near the School campus. He also advised that Director of Pupil Personnel Robbie Harmon had the campus on a hard lockdown. Columbia Police were able to have 4 additional officers to the School Resource officer in approximately 3 minutes and with the ability of CPD officers being able to respond from their homes 5 more were on scene in approximately 10 minutes. Once the school was initially searched and officers had reason to believe the juvenile was not on campus, the lockdown was changed to a soft lockdown. At 1:54pmCT, the juvenile was located by CPD Sgt. Murphy and Chief Cross on Greensburg Street off school property and was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing by School Resource Officer Kevin Atwood as to the origin of the report of the juvenile being armed as no weapons were located at the time he was taken into custody. In reference to Lockdown Procedures if anyone has in questions we would like to defer that to the Director of Pupil Personnel, Robbie Harmon or Superintendant Alan Reed as they would be more qualified to explain their process.
