College & Career night at Russell Springs, KY SCC center

By Allison Horseman
News from Somerset Community College

RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY (September 22, 2014) - A College and Career Night is being planned at the Somerset Community College (SCC) Russell Center, 848 W Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY, 5pm-9:30pmCT, Monday, September 29, 2014.

The SCC College and Career Night is being designed to assist employees from Fruit of the Loom, as well as anyone else interested in learning more about furthering his or her education at SCC, and is a free event. In April, Fruit of the Loom announced that it would permanently close its plant in Jamestown and lay off all 600 employees by the end of the year.

"Displaced Fruit of the Loom employees may be eligible for some financial assistance with going back to school," said SCC Russell Center Director Winfrey Bates. "Although we know the closing of the plant is devastating to many in our area, we want to be here to help those people make a new, fresh start with their lives. It's never too late to go back to school or learn a new skill."

Financial Aid representatives, admissions advisors and representatives from different SCC programs will be available at the SCC College and Career Night event.

"You will be able to ask questions and get answers here," said Bates. "We will have as many representatives on hand as possible so we can be a one-stop-shop in providing assistance."

Contact the SCC Russell Center at 270-858-6502. Website: somerset.kctcs.edu.
